Rooted Youth Leader Preacher

Purpose
To faithfully teach the Word of God in a way that students (6th–12th grade) can understand, relate to, and apply to their everyday lives.
This is about building them, not showcasing you.

1. The Foundation: The Word of God
Your message must come directly from Scripture.
Stay rooted in the Bible, not just opinions or stories.
Believe that God’s Word does not return void.
Even if students look distracted, trust that seeds are being planted.
We preach in faith.
 We teach in hope.
We plant seeds and trust God for growth.

2. Keep It Simple
Students have short attention spans.
Teach one clear point.
Do not jump around.
Do not chase “rabbits” or unrelated ideas.
Stay focused and intentional.
If they leave remembering one powerful truth, that is success.
Ask yourself:
Can a 6th grader understand this?

3. Make It Relatable
Life application matters.
Connect Scripture to what they face daily:
School pressure
Friend drama
Social media
Family conflict
Identity struggles
Anxiety
Temptation
Life experiences are great, but always bring it back to their world.
Break it down clearly.
Explain what it looks like Monday at school.

4. Engage Them
Encourage students to open their Bibles.
Ask for volunteers to read verses.
Repeat key phrases.
Have them repeat back important truths.
Ask simple, engaging questions.
Use object lessons when possible.
Pull in other leaders or students to help illustrate a point.
Make it interactive.
 Make it real.
Make it memorable.

5. Prayer Is Not Optional
Pray before you prepare.
Pray before you speak.
Pray after you finish.
Pray for:
Clarity
Boldness
Sensitivity to the Holy Spirit
Soft hearts in the room
We depend on God, not talent.

6. Length & Delivery
10–20 minutes maximum.
Be engaging.
Be genuine.
Be fun when appropriate.
Speak from your heart.
Speak from the Holy Spirit.
Be yourself, students can sense fake.
Passion is contagious.
 Authenticity builds trust.

7. The Heart Behind the Message
This is not about:
Impressing students
Sounding deep
Telling the best stories
Getting laughs
This is about:
Encouraging them
Building their faith
Teaching truth clearly
Empowering them to walk with Jesus personally
Every message should answer:
How does this help them follow Jesus this week?

Final Reminder
Some students will:
Look bored
Look distracted
Seem uninterested
But God is still working.
We preach believing seeds are going into soil.

We trust God with the harvest.
Be faithful.
Be prayerful.
 Be clear.
 Be focused.
 Be Spirit-led.

Don’t be afraid to make a mistake, none of us are perfect. Take it in stride and keep moving.
